About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Michael, Right you are about how you can tailor your instruction when you have an understanding of the different intelligences as well as learning preferences of your students. The more you know the more accurately you can plan as well as deliver. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, I like the way you have laid out your strategy. It is a good one and I know it will yield good results for you. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christine, You are doing a good job of connecting the course with their future. They need to see how the content of this course will help them move closer to achieving their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Darcey, This is such an important step in getting them settled into a new course. By answering their questions and reducing their fears through information you are helping them to see their role in the class and how this course will move them closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, Right you are and it is through method like this that you are able to keep them engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kesha, Good advice for all instructors to follow. We need to "read" our students when we are with them and then react to our read in a way that will keep them engaged as well as moving forward in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Harold, You have presented a very good balance in how you approach the classroom and your students. You are showing them what it is going to take if they are going to be successful in this industry. They need to see the business side as being as important as the artistic side if they are going to make in this career area. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sheretta, Students like variety and change of pace in their learning delivery. By offering both you are enabling the students to work within their learning preferences and find success in the different phases of the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sheretta, Good points about how to set the tone for your class. Bringing your passion to the classroom or lab says you are excited about what you are going to teach. Having enthusiasm for teaching says that you are going to do your best to keep your students engaged for the duration of the course. This sets the stage for a win win situation for all those involved. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Peggy, It is the foundation upon which success is built. Good point. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
