About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Karen, I agree because timely feedback is a valuable learning tool for students. Knowing their class status and receiving feedback on a recently completed assignment keeps them current with their learning and engagement in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, Listening is one of the most valuable tools and instructor can have. If we truly listen our students will know it and respond to us in return. Thank you for making this important point. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, This type of improvement is a constant. We need to always be striving to be better as educators. Your attitude and effort are both going to help you be the instructor of merit that you want to be. I wish you continued success! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Karen, This is so important for student success. Knowing their instructor cares about them as individuals and is there to help them be successful goes a long way in keeping the students in their program. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wayne, Students like change of pace and variety in their learning. You are providing both in your approach and this increases their engagement level as well as focus. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wayne, Good points about how to set the tone for the class. Knowing about them and their goals helps with instructional planning and letting them know of your experiences establishes you as the learning leader. This is a win win situation when developed in this way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joy, You make a good point about the fact that you are a former student yourself. Student sometimes forget this and don't realize that you are there to support them in their learning environment. You do know what they are going through because you have been there so you have an understanding of where they are at in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Bruce, Right you are about the learning environment and how just a little change in it can result in big benefits. Students need to feel supported in their learning and that needs to come from both the instructor and the physical environment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joy, Well described as a learning site. This is what our classrooms and labs should be like if they are going to support the learning of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carol, Sounds like you have a good balance in your approach. This instructional style keeps the class progressing and gives students ample opportunities to contribute to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
