About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Nicholas, This is such a great way to create a connection between what you are teaching and what the students see as the value of the course. The more examples you can share the more relevance they see and it just builds from there. Good model to follow. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, This is one of the reasons like to use groups when we do problem solving. The students learn how to work with others while experiencing the problem solving process from a number of different perspectives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, This is a very good point because unless we can communicate clearly we will not be able to get our content across. We need to make the development of good communication skills a part of our personal development plan. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vanessa, This is a good point because it seems that the bulk of instruction is based upon "thinking on your feet". The more expertise an instructor has in this area the more he or she will be able to respond to the ever changing situations in the classroom or lab. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vanessa, Right you are. Reasoning sets the stage for problem solving success. The more skill a persons has in the reasoning area the more they will be able to move through problem situations. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vanessa, This is where self discipline comes in and this is hard for many students. If they can't do a quick internet search and find the solution then they are done. They need to be able to lay out the problem and then think it through to solution if they are going to be successful in their career growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, This is such a strong reminder for the students. The need to develop expertise in understanding cause and effect in relation to problem solving. By doing so they are going to be more accurate in their problem solving with less of an error factor. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, Like your style. Get at the core and get the message across. By doing so you will be increasing the value of the course to your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, Three good elements needed for teaching and learning success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Glenn, You make a very good point about working through situations even when there are failures. When students make mistakes in the course they are supported by an expert (their instructor) so they can learn from their mistakes without major consequences such as injury or job loss. They get to start over but with added experience. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
