About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Mohammad, Relevancy and application needs to be a part of the instructional planning and delivery process. When students can see the relevancy and make application the value of the course increases for them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, I am sure you get some very interesting information back from your students. By having this input you can develop a customized approach to that class and be on target to help your students succeed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ruth, Thank you for sharing these two accommodations you made to facilitate success for this student. Your dedication to her success resulted from you wanting all students to succeed and move toward their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elizabeth, Good point because the first day is foundational to how the course is going to operate and that sets the tone for the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elizabeth, Without such a document the course will lack structure in the minds of the students. Effort needs to be invested in providing such information in a clear and concise way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elizabeth, A good professional development plan that will keep you current and constantly expanding your expertise area. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Eleana, This is a critical part of the learning process. If students don't see the value of what is being taught and cannot make application of it then they are not going to want to invest in what is being offered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Cynthia, So true. With variety the course will fall into a routine that will not engage the students and this leads to a lack of content retention very quickly. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Richard, Right you are in how you have laid out this approach. The variety of instruction will enable the different intelligences to shine at different times in the course while everyone is moving toward achieving the course goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kevin, You make a good point about the need for concept building. A chain of concepts helps students to see the big picture of what is being taught. The need to see how these concepts fit together and move them toward a knowledge base that will help them to be successful in their career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
