About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Claudia, Like your planning strategy. This way you are mixing it up for your students and your notes help to remember what has and has not been the most effective. Thanks for sharing this with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Claudia, Respect is the foundation for the development of rapport. Respect needs to be two way and has to be earned by all those involved. Once respect is earned then learning can really take off. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Claudia, It is easy to overlook this element of the teaching plan but students don't. We need to see our environment through the eyes of our students so we can make sure they have a supportive place to learn. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Stephen, Thank you for this list of ways to reinforce students. You are right about their need to have someone appreciate them as human beings as well as students. It is a building process when it comes to confidence and personal growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, So true and critical for teaching success. If the students do not respect their learning leader then it becomes extremely difficult to get them to focus on the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Paul, Like the way you explained the balance of instruction and engagement. This is how you will keep the attention of students while moving the course forward toward the stated goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Monir, Good flow for your class. This way you will keep their attention during the lecture while offering them application opportunities through the interactions sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Claudia, Like your attitude and I trust your efforts will be rewarded with increased student engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Claudia, I have had classes like that. No matter what you do they will not become engaged. Do your best and remember that as a professional educator you are maintaining a high level of instructional delivery. When I have a class like this I do everything I can with the class and leave it at that. Then I focus on the fact that I have a lot of good students that really want to learn and I am helping them move closer to their career goals. Having these students is what keeps me coming back to the classroom. I wish… >>>

Claudia, Good plan because students like variety and change of pace in instructional delivery. This way you are keeping them engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
