About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Christine, What are some ways you help your students to learn through discovery and skill refinement? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, Like this definition because I think it is essential that this blending occur. Without the blending one part of the solution may be missing an element and with patients as we know that is not an option. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christine, What are some ways you help your students do these two things? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, I reinforce this concept many times over. This seems to be one of the most common reasons for failure with students. They rush and don't spend the time nor take the patience to think through different options and then seek results. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Wendy, Like this additional element needed for critical thinking. You make a very good point because without passion for what one is working on the solution may not be reached. Granted sometimes the actual work of problem solving may not be that exciting but being able to solve the problem and move forward with a project generates a lot of motivation and excitement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, Students have a tendency to wear down during courses so taking the effort to keep them focused on the goal is most worthwhile. By being refreshed as to why they are in the course you can get them ramped up again so they will finish the course with enthusiasm. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, Good point for reflection because student failure can certainly be based upon a number of variables. Finding and fixing those variables is the key to teaching success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Heather, Right you are. How to you learn from your students where they came from? Do you use a class survey, discussion, etc.? Thanks for you input on this. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tiffany, Good point about the value and effectiveness of lectures. They can be very effective if they are packaged in a way that will engage students. Sounds like you have such an approach with your delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Abdul, Very refined way of getting to know the learning preferences of your students. This way you have a clear understanding of how you can plan your most effective instructional activities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
