About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Della, Strategies like this are valuable in helping the total student to develop. You are not only sharing content but are also helping them to develop in their social, emotional and self discipline areas as well. Keep sharing those quotes! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Della, Like your attitude in relation to how you approach and work with students. You are using the old saying "When you are listening you are learning." to the max. I to love teaching because every session I have a new group of students that have very diverse backgrounds from whom I get to learn for the duration of the course. Never boring and always enhancing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gregrey, Yes, it does. It keeps us fresh and excited about coming to class even if we have taught the same class for a long time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Della, Good comments about student relationships. We must always retain our professional distance with our students while providing them support and encouragement in relation to the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gregrey, The more feedback you can offer them the better. This way they will be current on their status in the class as well as the areas that they need to focus on to continue to be successful and grow in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Reza, A good point that needs to be remembered as we prepare to start off a new course. Getting to know our students can be a part of our first class meeting and ice breaker activities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nakesha, Yes it does. The more you know about them the more accurately you can plan your instruction to engage them. Also having this information will help you in establishing rapport with them as the course progresses. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Megan, This is so important especially as the course progresses. Students wear down and then they start to forget why they are in the course or even why they are in school. A reminder now and then can get them perked back up and ready to push to the completion of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Good way to get a feel for the class and a profile of that current class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Andrea, It is important to revisit them throughout the course because students tend to wear down in a course and forget what the expectations as well as the outcomes of the course are. A reminder now and then can get them back in sync. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
