About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Margaret, Like the way you bring in current cases and issues related to juvenile justice. I am sure this gets your students engaged and excited about discussing how these cases are impacting their field. This is what relevancy is all about. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Katherine, It is fixable if you will think about what the real problem is in relation to class management. Is it because of your age or is because of how you have set up the class. Once you know where the student challenges are coming from you can move to fix them. Do you have a routine so the students know what to do when they come into class and get settled? Are you clear in your expectations? Are you showing your student respect so they can in turn respect you? Are you being the learning leader in the class?… >>>

Ramona, Yes, it does so we need to bring a good attitude to class each time we face our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Yi, Very important part of establishing rapport with students. Having knowledge of their instructor's background and career experiences helps them to see that they are being taught by someone that has the expertise to move them forward in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danice, Sharing real life experiences is essential in helping students to see what the next steps are in their career development as well as giving value to the content they are being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danice, Sharing real life experiences is like sealing the deal for students. They get to hear about how they will be using the content that is being taught as well as helping them to see what they can expect upon graduation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Your professional experience and expertise gives you a great opportunity to tell students what they can expect once they are in field while also helping them to see the value of what they are being taught. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Maria, Good way to engage your students while touching upon their learning preferences. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
LYDIA, "Reading" students is a good way to get a feel of what their learning preferences are and how they can be engaged in the course. By offering a variety of learning deliveries you will be touching on student learning preferences at different times throughout the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Frank, Good ways to get your students engaged and sharing in the course. The result will be increased motivation as well as excitement about what they are learning and how they are moving closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
