About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Michael, Can't say it too much. Repetition is a valuable learning tool that we need to use as much as we can as we instruct our students. The fun part is to come up with new ways of saying the same thing over and over again so the students stay with us in terms of attention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
LYDIA, Bring passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching goes a long way in "selling" your course to students. As we all know if we are not excited about being in class it is for sure students won't be either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jose, You are doing two things that really get students engaged. By helping them to see the relevancy of the content while giving them practical applications you are enhancing their perception of the value of the course and why they are in school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sherry, This is such a powerful way to connect to students. Knowing they are valued is critical and you are doing such by learning their names early in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michelle, A good balance in the teaching and delivery effort. This is how instruction should be offered to students so they will be engaged and focused. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Barbara, Good point and a good rule to follow. Respect is a two way street and must be earned it cannot be gifted. Thus, by giving our students respect we are in turn earning theirs. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.

Reza, This is the value of student feedback. You can make adjustments as needed to keep them engaged and the course moving forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Connie, Two good points at which to take a reading of the class. The mid point reading is good because we can still make adjustments if needed to make sure the course remains on target and progressing as it should. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, Good point about taking a few deep breaths and letting the mind settle a bit. It is amazing how much a brisk walk down the hall between classes can do to clear the brain of fog and get you ready for the next class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Amy, So true and so important to our teaching efforts. The more comfortable the more engaged that student will be which results in enhanced learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
