About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Sharita, Sounds like a great strategy to use. You and your students are moving forward in the course in a way that engaged them plus they are being prepared for making applications of the content later on in their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, If this is not done at the beginning of the course then both the instructor and the students will be wondering exactly where the course is going. They need to be on the same page. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
Dean, Good point. Instructors need to bring passion for their content and enthusiasm for teaching to each and every class they meet. If they don't it is for sure the students won't be excited either. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Danice, Great way to provide engagement for your students. You are touching on their learning preferences in a way that will help them be successful and see how they can acquire the needed content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Thank you for these comments about how we need to support our adult learners. You are correct about how we need to let them know we are there to support them and their learning success. This goes a long way in getting them settled into the course and feeling like they can make it through. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gene, Good way to make the content valuable to your students. You are increasing the ROI for your students through the applications and examples you share with your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharita, Good strategy to have to inform your students about your subject area. The more you invest the more valuable your content will be to your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Norman, So critical for your students to understand. They need to know the value of math in their career development. The more applications you can share the better because they will start to see math not as just a subject but a tool they need to have just as are their knives and other culinary equipment. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Frank, All of the elements you have listed contribute to the total instructional picture. This is how instructors need to plan and deliver their instruction. Thank you for sharing these strategies with us. I know they will be of great help to other instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, All good strategies for enhancing your professional development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
