About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kimberly, So true and so important in establishing a relationship with your students from day one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pamela, Many instructors don't seem to see the value in an approach like this. What you are doing with this type of class opening is setting the stage for success. You are starting the development of respect and rapport and will be able to build on both throughout the course. Thank you for sharing these strategies with us. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Fernanda, Good opening to a new class. You are getting your students settled in and feeling comfortable while learning about them as they learn about you. This sets a great tone for the upcoming class sessions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Misty, Great plan for learning about not only who your students are but also about how they process information. You are learning into their learning preferences via your question about their favorite video game. This gives you a baseline from which to select your instructional content and delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kimberly, The more you can replicate the real world for a career area the better. This will ease the transition of students from the school setting to the real world setting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sara, Good point and one we need to remember as we approach the classroom or lab. Are we seeing the setting through the eyes of our students is the question we need to ask ourselves. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Misty, Good point about how we must offer our students clear goals and objectives. They need to know where the course is going and how they can be successful within the course. If we don't they will be drifting just as you mention. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Fernanda, I think the videos will be a nice addition to your instructional delivery. You are using the different senses to help the students to see the value of the content and skills they need to learn. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kendrick, Good plan and one that I know will result in increased student satisfaction with the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sara, Colleagues are wonderful resources to identify and use. I commend you for your approach and I wish you continued success in learning from them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
