About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

NaKeta, Good for you. Bringing your passion for your field into the classroom along with enthusiasm for teaching are two sure ways to get your students excited. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessie, I do to. Field trips make the content come alive for them and increases the value of the course in terms of their career development. In addition, their motivation levels increase because they get to see and meet individuals doing what they are training to do. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, The more real world applications you can make the better. You are doing a good job of making your content relevant with your sharing of stories and current events that impact your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Audrey, I like your approach in motivating your students. I have found that adult learners are just tall children. They like to be recognized and rewarded. A pizza party or a smiley face really ramps up the engagement of students plus we have a lot of fun learning the material that results in the rewards. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Audrey, Very good point because students do need a support system to rely on at different times in their school career. By having rapport and respect from students the instructor can fulfill such a role. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Audrey, Cannot over emphasize the value of enthusiasm when it comes to teaching. An instructor that is passionate about his or her field and excited about teaching the content is going to enjoy student engagement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Audrey, I think this is good information to have from a student for the reasons you mention. This way you can encourage, support and challenge students as needed when they are moving through their programs. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anna Marie, They really do since so many college students today do not have good note taking and study skills. Any help we can offer along these lines will be valuable to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anna Marie, This is such a critical connecting point for the students. If they see relevancy the value of the content has increased greatly. They start to see the ROI they will get from being successful in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Anne, Like the use of the word "teach" instead of student presentation. I think this word change sends a signal to the students that they are not only sharing content but also teaching how it can be used. This increases the value of their presentations to the class since they are showing application and relevancy in what they are discussing. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
