About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Nutisha, For sure. You have to keep the class interesting or you are going to start to have class management issues. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Brian, I think this is a great idea because with a diverse student population you and your students will gain knowledge about all kinds of different foods and preparation. I love learning about and eating foods from different countries so I would love to be a student in a class like yours. You are so right about how this increases the engagement of your students from other countries. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shane, Many of our adult students have real challenges to overcome outside of the classroom. So by providing a support system or referring them to where they can find support you are doing a valuable service in addition to hopefully keeping them in school. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pixie, These are good learning strategies to use with your students. This way you are changing the pace of the class and keeping them engaged for the duration of the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pamela, Keeps them on their toes plus lets them know you value their input because you know their name. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shane, I agree about the benefits of sharing real life experiences. These experiences are what reinforce the content being taught and increases the value of the course to the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, Great list and what we should be about as instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Shane, Good strategy to follow because by doing so you are reducing confusion and misunderstandings on the part of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Pixie, Your last sentence says it all. If we are not passionate about our field and enthusiastic about teaching it is for sure our students will not be excited about being in the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Laurie, They sure do so we instructors need to bring our A game and be ready for a great first class meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
