About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Clare, Like your approach in how you are offering your instructional content. This method gives your students different ways to intake and then store the needed content. Also, you are showing them the relevancy of the content and how it can be applied. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, I use repetition a lot in my classes as well. My content requires that students memorize a lot of terms so I have developed a lot of activities and games that we play to get the students to use the terms and get them burned in their memories for use later. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, Your analysis is right on target. Many instructors do not see learning from this perspective so they just "force feed" the content without really involving or engaging the students. Adult learners do not like to learn this way and if taught this way are going to reject much of the content being offered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nutisha, We need to reinforce relevancy and application in every way we can throughout the duration of our course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Faye, Students enjoy classes that contain both an element of fun and are interesting. Both of these need to be a part of our instructional planning and delivery. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammie, Success stories reinforce what is being taught and increase the value of the content to students. This sets up a win win situation for both you the instructor and the students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
LeWando, What of some examples of success stories you use? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, Students like a change of pace and variety in their learning delivery. You are doing such with your approach and then reinforcing your content with application. This is what "sells" a course to students just as you have said. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robert, I believe you are right. Having passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in engaging students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Faye, Listening is an extremely valuable teaching tool. If the students know you listen to them they in turn will respect and listen to you. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
