Melissa, Feedback is essential for course improvement. This is how we get better in our delivery and choice of content that is presented. I get feedback from my students on a regular basis throughout the course so I can make any adjustments that may need to be made and stay student centered. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, You hit upon the two key words--passion and enthusiasm. Both need to be present in the class if students are going to be engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Melissa, It really does. Having this information gives you insight into how they are going to respond as you get into the course content. Also, having this information can assist you in providing support to students if you encounter them having some struggles. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Rody, Like the way you establish how the course is going to operate and what your expectations are for not only academic success but also interpersonal success. We cannot neglect the development of the soft skills within our students. Many of our students come to us without the back ground or the experience to understand how to dress, speak and conduct themselves in a professional setting. We need to help them acquire these competencies as well. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, So true. We do have a impact on the live of our students and we can never forget that. Our legacy as educators are our students and thus we need to strive to turnout only the very best products we can. Their success will reflect on our dedication to our field and their lives. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jenaro, Thank you for your analysis of the value that a well prepared syllabus has for students. You are right on target with how the syllabus should be used and the role it plays in getting students started off right in a new course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doinysius, It is important to "read" the class each time it meets. This way you will have the pulse of the class and can make adjustments as needed to keep the course moving forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doinysius, Good point and the reason why we need to set the standard for the course right from the beginning. This way the expectations will be understood and everyone can move forward. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Alice, What are some ways you can implement this idea? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Doinysius, This is why we need to see the environment through the eyes of our students and then make adjustments as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
