About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jeannie, Attitude spreads just as you say. It is for sure if you are not excited about being in the classroom it is for sure that your students won't be either. We need to spread the positive when it comes to learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Daniel, Passion for your field and enthusiasm for teaching are two elements needed for teaching and learning success. Your comments are right on about needing to be a salesman of your content. You need to give your students reasons and applications of why they are being taught what they are and why they need to learn the material. When you do this you get a pay back from your students that makes all your work worth it. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, Students love to hear stories from the field. When you share these stories from your past you are increasing the value of the content because you are showing your students both relevancy and application. So keep on sharing! Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, You have a good sense in terms of how to deliver content via different mediums. You are right about the fact that you need to incorporate these other mediums to retain student interest even if the course dwells on visual medium. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Charles, Thank you for your comments about how we need to be student centered in our approach. As instructors on the post secondary level it is our responsibility to set the stage for learning through the activities you mention. It is up to the student then to practice self discipline in order to be successful both in the classroom as well as in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michelle, It is essential that every student understands what they course expectations are. With a clear and concise syllabus a major step has been taken in the communication of this information. From there it is a building process in terms of course expectations and performance. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lisa, You have a good instructional delivery plan in place so keep using it. As for class projects I know you are going to like the results you get when you implement this method because the students really become engaged in the development process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, I think this is an important thing to do in all aspects of our lives. Your strategy is a good one because at the end of the day you have a list from which you can develop a plan of action be it as a teacher or in other aspects of our life. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
John, As you know students really perk up when you share stories from the field because you are making the content relevant to their career growth and increasing the value of the course to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Raymond, By setting your class up as an office environment you are doing a great service for your students. By experiencing your classroom your students will have an easier time transitioning into the workplace because they will know what to expect. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
