About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jodi, Yes, it is. This type of professional appearance and conduct sets the tone for the classes to come and gives your students an idea of how you are going to conduct the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gary, So true. Through application and practice the students will start to develop the skills needed to be successful in the course and in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gary, Very well said. Thank you for these comments as they reflect the way we should approach our instructional planning and delivery. Rapport is one of the rewards we get from being teachers because we are helping our students to move closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Elanor, You have a real feel for how to integrate all your students into the learning community. They need to see and feel how they can contribute and be successful. Once this is done then they will start to open up and share. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
EDWARD, Showing your students how to create study groups is a good way to show them support. Study groups are beneficial because the encourage each other and have a common goal of helping every member be successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Linda, With experience I am sure you are going to come up with some very effective alternative teaching methods for your students. You are doing a number of very exciting things already so it will be an expansion on these as well as what ever new ideas you come up with. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dina, You have a real resource with your family. I can imagine you all have some very interesting discussions when you get together. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jamie, Making such changes can be a challenge but you have a system in place that based upon your comments works really well. Students need to be adaptable as well as they will encounter the need to make such adjustments in work places once they are in the field. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Joy, Your last sentence really captures how we need to approach our students. They need to feel that they are part of the class and that they have a person in authority, the instructor as a support. This way they will see how they can be a member of the learning community and make contributions to the class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Julie, This is true. We all seek that when we go into a new setting. The more comfortable we can make our students feel the quicker they will become a part of the learning community. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
