About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Lydia, This is the human side of teaching and it is so important as you have indicated. We need to remember our role in the support and modeling aspects of our profession and the results will be rapport with our students and enhanced learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Liz, You hit upon such an important point in terms of validation from someone that is an authority. As the instructor we are the learning leaders and when when reinforce a student and provide input on their success in the class we earn their respect and start developing rapport with them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, This is good advice for instructors to follow because these strategies will get adult students involved and invested in the learning process. The results are going to be engaged learners and expanded knowledge acquisition. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jodi, It is a fact that enthusiasm is catching. We need to bring passion for our field and excitement about teaching each and every time we step into the classroom. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Thomas, Balance is the key and instructors need to be aware of what is their number one goal and that is to help in the educational process of their students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
David, You make a good point about knowing why our students are in our classes. By knowing this we can more accurately target our instruction to support the growth of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jodi, All good points. It is a big step for these students to be in school so the more we can support their efforts and help them to have early success in their courses the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Liz, Thank you for sharing your success story with us. I love hearing stories like your because this is why we are in the business we are. Helping your population to understand that they are not the first to be in their situation and that most of us understand because we have been where they are is a great way to help them see that their instructors are role models that they can learn from and grow with. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Christina, All good ways to expand your professional knowledge and expertise. This is how you will be able to continue to grow both in your field and as an educator. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erwin, The strategy I use is to try and break the content down into segments that they students feel they can understand and learn. This way they don't become overwhelmed by the volume of material because I give them a lecture and handout on a specific topic, then review it and have a discussion and then move on to the next topic. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
