About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Aleah, I think this is very important to do since most of us instructors have problems with getting students to class on time as well as attending on a regular basis. It is for sure that employers are looking for graduates that they can count on to be at work each day and on time. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aleah, Listening is such a powerful learning tool. As instructors by listening we are showing respect for our students as individuals and this helps to create a positive learning environment for them. This way they can focus on being successful in the course as well as feel comfortable in sharing their opinions about the topics being discussed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aleah, So true and so important to the learning process. Students need to know that they are being viewed as individuals with goals and dreams for a future. When they know that they can start to appreciate the courses they are taking and the progress they are making in their career development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Merrick, I think this is important information to have because by knowing why they have chosen their field you can help shape their understanding of the field and what the expectations are. If they don't understand the field clearly then they are going to be disappointed when they are working in it. They need a realistic picture of where they are going to spend their working years. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Manuel, You have been where your students are so you can relate to them and their current status. As a role model it is important for you to show them that through hard work they to can be successful just as you have been. Keep up the good work you are doing in helping your students to see their future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Aleah, They need this type of reinforcement to improve in their skill development as well as stay engaged in the learning process. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Laura, This is when teaching is fun! They get it and we instructors get to be a part of the learning growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jared, I have found that my adult learners are pretty evenly distributed throughout the four learning preference areas. With that being said I have also found that they want to see relevance and application in what is being taught thus they tend to use more tactile and "hands on" approaches to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for the career area they are preparing to enter. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Liz, Great teaching techniques. This is what teaching should be about. You have your student looking forward to coming back to class the next time to get the answer to the question raised or mystery created. This makes learning fun for them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Liz, Trust, confidence, respect and rapport are all words that we need to know and understand in our role as educators. If we offer students these four elements we are going to increase our retention and expand the knowledge of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
