About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Ryan, Right you are. With all of this preparation come confidence in the ability to be the learning leader and this sets the stage for student engagement and enhanced learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ryan, You are right about working for a wonderful school. It is obvious that your school values instructors and wants them to be well prepared. Enjoy these experiences and continue your professional growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, The more you can do this the better because by doing so you are bringing relevancy to students. You are increasing the value of the content and giving them reason for being enrolled. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, This is so important because the instructor is not only the learning leader but also a model for students. Instructors need to remember this as they interact with students in every situation both in class and out. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Butch, By creating such a balance for your students I know both you and your students are going see enhanced learning and great retention of the content. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Betty, Right you are. I seem to experience this almost every day at school If students are acting and speaking this way while in school how can the expect to be successful in the workplace. They need to stop, reflect, analyze and the propose solutions just as you have outlined. This is when success will come their way. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, I agree and your approach is a way to help your students to appreciate the fact that it takes hard work and effort to be successful. They cannot "micro-wave" their careers. Meaning set the timer for 60 seconds and bing they have the knowledge and skills required for career success. They need to dig in and invest themselves in their work, this will bring success to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jessica, Great definition of personal discipline. This is what our students need to understand and develop if they are going to be successful in their careers. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Betty, Thank you for these comments. In our "entitlement culture" self discipline has taken a real hit. Students do not want to invest the time nor effort in the development of this most important skill. Self discipline makes career development possible. The more our students invest in their education and career growth the more their careers will grow. They need to get a grasp on the fact that just because they paid tuition to go to school they did not buy an A. They must earn a grade based upon hard work and personal discipline. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, You make a good point concerning the fact that students have to bring something to the learning environment as well. They need to have the self discipline to do the work required and the motivation to shape their own career. We can facilitate the learning process but in the end it is their future and they have to work to make it what they want it to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
