About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Laura, It really does so we learning leaders need to remember that we are being observed at all times, thus we need to conduct ourselves as the professionals we are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, It is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. From the first class meeting on it is a procession of knowledge acquisition and personal growth. This is why it is important to get the students off to a good start and help them feel a part of their new learning community. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, This is the human factor in education that helps to set the stage for the upcoming course sessions. I really like introduction time as I start a new course because I get to learn about my students and why they are enrolled in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Erwin, Most definitely use your real world experiences to reinforce the textbook content and your lectures. The stories you share will increase the value of the information and show relevancy to what is being taught. The more connection you can make between the course content and the real world the better. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Vicki, Good way to share with your students that you are there to help them be successful if they will put forth the needed effort. As the learning leader you get to set the standards for the course and then help your students work to achieve them. A great opportunity for career development and personal growth. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ana, This is such valuable information to have because by knowing it you will have an idea about what is motivating individual students. This way you can encourage them as needed throughout a course when life issues start to pull them away from being successful. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Arif, You make a very good point about the human factor. This is the core of student centered instruction. Putting the student first in terms of instructional planning will result in a higher level of engagement and this is a win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ryan, Yes, it will. It is the foundation upon which the earning of respect and developing rapport is built. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Things like this have a real impact on the students. We instructors need to look at our classrooms and labs through the eyes of our students and them make adjustments as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, By having clear goals and objectives both you and your students are starting the course off on the same page. Everyone knows what the expectations are and can work together to achieve those goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
