About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Gilbert, Like your model and style of delivery. Sounds like you are doing a good job with moving your students through a lot of material while keeping them engaged. This is the sign of a dedicated professional and I commend you for your efforts. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gerald, All the things you listed are going to help you be successful in your instructional impact on your students. Humor is a great resource to use to help students relax and appreciate time spent in class. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robin, Students like change of pace and variety in instructional delivery. You are offering both with your approach and this is so important in longer sessions like yours. I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I can relate to the challenge of teaching long duration courses and keeping the interest of students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gerald, I think you will like the results you get with this approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Robin, Right you are about the first impression being so important. It is the foundation upon which the rest of the course is built. We need to be prepared and ready to share so the students will see the value we place on the content we are going to share. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gerald, Clear and concise goals and objectives are a must because without them you have a lack of shared vision and direction by the students as well as the instructor. This keeps everyone forward focused throughout the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Kleinkauf, This is a very good point to remember as we develop examples to use in helping our students to expand their expertise as problem solvers. We need to help them to develop strategies that will work within their experience and expertise. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Ali, Things like the quote stand out in a student's mind just as did the use of a quote by your instructor. Anything like that we can do to get the attention of the students and help them get settled into the course is appreciated. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sarah, Having an understanding in terms of the course goals and objectives is a must. This is how respect is earned and rapport is developed. Your comments show the outcomes of the having such an approach. A win win for everyone. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gerald, Great to hear of the value these courses are to you. Welcome to teaching. I wish you much success as you impact the lives of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
