About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Tiffany, This is how you create a foundation upon which to build the course. By letting students know expectations they can concentrate on how they will meet those expectations needed for course success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Keondra, Enthusiasm is catching as you know so this is why we need to bring it each time the class meets. The more excited about the content we are the more engaged our students are going to be. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michelle, I think you will like the results you get from using a survey at the beginning of the course. They yield a lot of information that gives you insight as to how best provide support and reinforcement. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Keondra, This is such valuable information to have as it provides you ways to engage students and provide support as they progress through the course. The more we know the more we can customize our approach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Keondra, So true in terms of building a solid foundation for the course to build upon. This is why we need to plan carefully for our first class meeting. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Mary, Glad this information was of value to you. Thank you for the kind words about it. I wish you continued teaching success as you continue to impact the lives of your students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jon, Good point and one that needs to be repeated to us instructors as we prepare our content and delivery. We need to bring our A game each time the class meets. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Discussion Comment
James, This is my approach as well and I have found that I get very accurate and candid feedback. The feedback then can be used as I plan my future courses so I get to see course improvement each time I teach. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Benjamin, Your reference to Ben Stein made me laugh because he has been used as an example of a very boring teacher for many years. In fact I have had several instructors much like him. Your point is a good one in that we need to keep our content interesting and our delivery engaging if we expect to keep the interest of our students. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Keondra, Great point about the need for clear goals and objectives. They are the ultimate for your students as they show them what they will be learning throughout the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
