About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jerry, Like the way you approach the classroom. You are showing both application and relevance in terms of what you are teaching. With your extensive preparation you can shift the class in different directions as needed to keep them engaged. I commend you for your preparation and dedication to making the most of your teaching opportunities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, I think this is a service that you provide your students. Being honest with them and their goals helps them to get a realistic picture of what success means in their field. Then they can decide if they are going to invest the time and effort it takes to acquire success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, Passion for one's field and enthusiasm for teaching about it goes a long way in helping students to become engaged. You are using both with your approach. I wish you continued teaching success as a result of your effort. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sharon, This is a good point from which to do your instructional planning. Make the class interesting enough for them to see the value of being in attendance. The result will be enhanced learning and greater student satisfaction. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Theresa, The more connections that can be made between the life experiences of students and the course content the better. This helps them to see the relevance of what is being taught and increases their ROI as it applies to being in college. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Theresa, Having been a long time member of ACTE as well as president of the group when it was known as the American Vocational Association (AVA) I can relate to your comments about the information that can be received from this association. The Techniques magazine as you well know gives out a lot of information each month for teachers that are working in the career education field. You have a good professional development plan and I wish you much success with your PhD program. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Sean, Two important principles that we need to remember each time we step into a teaching situation. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Susan, I think this as well. This is the foundation upon which respect and rapport is earned and developed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Susan, This is a comfortable supportive way to interact with students and earn their respect. From there it is a building process to develop rapport and increase their engagement in the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jerry, Good variety in the learning options that your students have. You are helping the to acquire the content and information in a variety of different ways that appeal to their different learning preferences. This will as you already know increase their retention in the course and help them to move closer to their career goals. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
