About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jose, This is a great way to see your delivery and get constructive feedback on how to refine your presentation skills. This is something that we all can work on throughout our teaching career. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gary, How do you share your course goals and objectives with your students? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Gary, Great to hear. What do you think you will see as the biggest benefit of using this new information? Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carlos, Like the cause and effect approach because it gets students thinking on both sides of a problem or issue. This greatly expands their knowledge of how to deal with such issues in the future. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carlos, Good way to expose your students to consequences of action. These lessons will help them as they progress through their training and make problem solving a part of their everyday abilities in the kitchen. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Victoria, I use a lot of case studies for the reasons you state. They need to see what kinds of problems they are going to face out in the work world and then learn how to solve such problems. The more they do in class the more expertise they are going to carry with them out into their positions. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Carlos, Well said. This is how critical thinkers need to approach situations. The more opportunities you can provide your students to develop this needed approach the better prepared they are going to be when they graduate. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dave, Right you are. Last session I taught six sections of the same course and I had one section that was a challenge to say the least. I had younger students that did not want to be in school, in the course, on planet earth, nor anywhere else except in front of screen playing video games. Had to work hard in that class to get them engaged and seeing value to what was being taught. By being consistent as you mention that was possible and the course turned out very well. Discussion Comment
Arlene, Listening is a powerful learning tool. We instructors need to learn how to listen and then use the information we have learned from our students to format our instruction in a way that will generate excitement about the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Dave, You are earning respect from the first class forward which in turns set you up to develop rapport with them. When respect and rapport is present it is fun to be in the classroom or lab with students and enjoy seeing them moving forward in their learning development. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
