About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Kristina, Thank you for sharing your experience and expertise about how to handle student learning groups. I know this information will be valuable to other instructors. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nnekia, I teach long session courses as well (4 until 10 pm) so I can relate to what you are saying. It is important to offer variety and change of pace to the students. You are doing such so you can keep their attention and increase the value of the content to them. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Like the way you help your students to personalize the content of the course to their lives. You explain to them how the content made a difference to you and how it can for them. This increases the value of the course to the students from day one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jonida, This is such an important part of the learning process. The more examples you can share with your students the more value they will see in the content you are offering. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Raymond, You make a good point and something the students need to understand. Even though you may offer variety in your instructional delivery so you are appealing to the different learning preferences in class students need to be able to acquire knowledge from other preference areas as well because they are going to have to when they are out in the work place. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Lauren, You make a number of very good points about how an instructor needs to create a positive and supportive first impression in the class. It is from this impression engagement is created and student growth is made. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, What a wonderful compliment. You are forming a foundation of trust and respect with your students from day one and building from there. This is how a successful course is started. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Sounds like a supportive and reinforcing learning environment. This is essential if you are going to be able to keep your students engaged for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Patricia, Great to hear of the professional development opportunities your school offers you and your fellow faculty members as you all strive to expand your instructional effectiveness. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, I use pretesting so I can get a baseline on my students and that helps me to select the way I will present the course content. Knowing why they are taking the course and what their career goals are helps the instructor be able to provide support and reinforcement as needed. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
