About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jennifer, The more use of tactile involvement the greater retention of cognitive concepts. You have this approach down as you are using it daily in your instructional delivery. I am sure your students approach your efforts in this area as they strive to learn the required content. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Jennifer, This is why it is important to know all you can about your students. When you do you are able to personalize your instruction and keep them engaged for the duration of the course. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
James, Students like change of pace and variety in their instructional delivery. You are offering both with your approach and that enables you to keep the course moving forward so you can cover the required material. Keep up the good work. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, This is why it is important to keep "reading" them throughout each class session. This way you can make adjustments on the fly and not lose their interest. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Michael, These types of activities are what help students to see the value of the content being offered and enjoy being a part of the learning process. I use a lot of role playing and case studies in may classes as I am striving for the same results that you are when offering these learning opportunities. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Arrington, Yes, it does set the tone for future class sessions. This is why it is so important to have a solid foundation upon which to build from day one. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, This approach is comprehensive and targeted. This way students will be engaged and have content delivered to them via their learning preferences. This sets up a very supportive learning environment that will lead to student growth and maximized learning. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Tammy, This is what being held accountable should be about. Students like to use selective hearing when it comes to due dates and project requirements. By signing that they have received and read the syllabus they are putting themselves in charge of their success. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
Nichelle, Good way to share course information with students as well as help them get prepared for the first class meeting. You are also holding them accountable for having read the material so they have an idea of how the course is going to operate and what the expectations are. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
William, You make a very good point and one we need to remember as we prepare to start a new class and get everyone engaged. Gary Gary Meers, Ed.D.
