I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Alan, Thank you for sharing this great story with us. This is what teaching is all about. I know after this man told you his story and you were inspired to work even harder to prepare and present to your students. This is what keeps all of us instructors coming back to the classroom day after day. Gary
Hi Michele, Good point about balance. You have two levels of responsibility and it sounds like you have found how to work within both roles. The results will be a better prepared group of students leaving your program. Good job. Gary
Hi Amy, So true. This is when we need to get creative with our instruction so the material is new to us as well even if we have taught the course many times over. Gary
Hi Laura, Good approach. This sends a signal of support and respect to the students because they know you are available should they need it. Gary
Hi Amy, Thanks for the list. It is what we instructors should be all about. Gary
Hi Thomas, This is why we keep coming back to the classroom as instructors. We are helping create a future for out students. They are adults that are dedicated enough to enroll in school and then pursue an education. This gets us excited about and for them and their success. Gary
Hi Kathy, Way to build a scaffold of learning between episodic and semantic memories for student use. This sequence will enable the students to retain and apply the needed information in a effective and efficient manner. Gary
Hi Matt, Thanks for this inspiring comment. This is what keeps us coming back to the classroom day after day. An "Ah-ha" moment lifts everyone's spirits and increases the motivation of other students. Gary
Hi Sandra, Thank you for sharing your strategy for keeping online students engaged. The more mental and visual connections you can create the higher the learning retention is going to be. Well done. Gary
