About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi David, Your point about having private conversations with students that need some guidance about their efforts or attendance is the good. No one likes being dressed down in front of others, but with a few well chosen words in private you can help shape the future success of a student on the bubble of failure. Gary
Hi Brian, I agree feedback must be honest and accurate so the student can benefit from it. By being constructive in your criticism you are showing the students how they can improve to the betterment of themselves and their ability to be successful in their career. Gary
Hi David, Great way to draw a student into the class. By knowing something about him and his background you were able to do so to the benefit of the entire class. Gary
Hi Dennis, You lay it out and this shows them how to be successful. The course is theirs to fail or pass, they have to make the choice since you are there to help them be successful their choice should be success. Sadly not all students see their studies this way. Gary
Hi Brian, This is a great way to keep the students informed about the course, deadlines, etc. while showing them how a professional approaches the field. This is modeling at the highest level. Gary
Hi Heather, Instructor enthusiasm goes a long way in keeping students engaged and focused on the course. We need to remind ourselves to keep our excitement level up throughout the course so the students will see us a professionals excited about our field. Gary
Hi Andrew, I agree with you about the benefits of student groups. I use them all the time in my classes with great results. The connections and networking that results from the groups is and will be valuable for the duration of the students' careers. Gary
Hi Lindsey, So true. We, instructors have to keep our students informed about the course polices, requirements and assignments at all times. This is only fair as well as professional. If we spring things on them we are going to have class management issues that can be avoided if we only inform them. Gary
Hi Barbara, This is a great support for your students. How do you get them to come to your tutoring sessions? Thanks for your feedback on this because many instructors want to provide tutoring but aren't sure how to set it up. Gary
Hi Lindsey, Go for it! Sounds like you are being dynamic in your delivery even if the content is not as exciting as you wish it to be. The key is to take the content and format it so the instructional delivery keeps the students engaged while they acquire the needed content. Gary
