About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi David, Good plan and one that will greatly increase your ability to be an instructor of quality. Gary
Hi Manuel, How to you change your content from boring to challenging and engaging? Thanks in advance for your input on this. Gary
Hi Brian, Right you are. First impressions are made in every situation. In teaching we need to make sure they are positive so you can move the class forward with students that are excited about what they are going to learn. Gary
Hi Colleen, This is a great way to expand your knowledge of what is and is not working for your students. By getting feedback throughout the course you can make adjustments along the way so you are able to customize your instruction to meet their needs. Gary
Hi William, Good point about consistency for students. By using the same syllabus format the students know where to look for each section of the syllabus. This reduces frustration for them and helps the instructor zero students in on critical sections. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us. Gary
Hi Caroline, By sharing your own life experiences as a student you are showing your students that you understand their challenges of trying to balance being a student and coping with life. This is a good way to establish rapport with your students as well. Gary
Hi Amy, I commend you for your efforts to engage your students. You kept trying different things until you found something that really engaged the students. This is what good instructional planning is all about. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Jonathan, Good way to get a general profile of the students you are going to have. This way you can target their learning preferences during your instructional planning. Gary
Hi Manuela, I wish you the best in your teaching and the taking of these courses. If I can be of any help to you during this time please let me know. Gary
Hi Paula, Keep up your effort. It takes some time but most of them will catch on. For those that don't their careers are going to average at best because they can't be depended upon to show up each day on time. By keeping up your effort you know that you have been the model they need and this should give you a measure of professional satisfaction. Gary
