About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Darren, Good job of laying out the course expectations, requirements, and policies so your students can get settled into the course and prepare themselves for learning. By setting a level of comfort in the classroom you are going have a more engaged group of students. Gary
Hi Thomas, This sounds like a very good way to work with the diverse student body you have. You are letting them individualize their learning in a number of different ways and this helps them to become engaged and stay engaged for longer periods of time. Gary
Hi Anthony, Good strategies for keeping your students focused and involved in the learning process. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Kaci, Good strategies for expanding your professional development. You are going to be able to keep your students more engaged and focused as a result of your following your listed steps. Gary
Hi Kelly, Sounds like you are going to be well prepared and ready for your class. Soak up all of the information, and experience you can from the other instructors. Plan well. Be organized. And then with a deep breath step into the classroom as a confident instructor excited about being able to teach your content. You are going to do a great job and impact the lives of many students. Gary
Hi Novella, What are some of the methods you have used that have proven to be most successful? Thanks in advance for your input on this. Gary
Hi Stephan, Good way to introduce variety to the learning preferences of your students. This way they will remain engaged because of the change of pace and variety of media being used to deliver content. Gary
Hi Maureen, You raise a good caution in creating peer support situations. We need to look at how the students are helping each other to ensure that both get the needed input and educational benefits. Gary
Hi Donna, Well said. The human factor has to be a part of what we share with our students. By knowing we care and will support them in their efforts the students create a connection between us and their success which helps them mover closer to their career goals. Gary
Hi Carrie, I love stories like this because they serve to motivate us instructors to keep doing what we are doing. You are having an impact on this woman's life and as a result she is making progress toward her career goal. This is what teaching is all about. Gary
