About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Travis, Can't say too much about rapport. Rapport really helps to keep students engaged and focused on the course for the duration. All instructors need to realize its' importance and strive to create it with each student. Gary
Hi Travis, I really like your approach to the classroom and your students. With your compassion, zeal and dedication your students are going to be successful while being able to see a model of what a professional is. Gary
Hi Valencia, Good point. This is another tool that can be used in the planning process because you know your students and what their learning preferences are. Gary
Hi Bill, Right you are about how students respond to real life examples. These stories show them application and relevancy to what they are learning so they can then refocus when you go back to content. Gary
Hi Larry, Great strategy. This approach helps to make your math a part of the total career training process for your students. They can see the value of math because you will be giving them specific examples related to their individual career areas. Gary
Hi Valencia, I agree with you about the need to help them see what they are doing for themselves and their families by being in school. This is so important and they can forget it sometimes when the pressures of life start to bear down on them part way through the course. They need some real encouragement at this point. Gary
Hi Sarah, Humans have very short memories in many ways and this is why it is good to remind them how far they have come when they start to wear down mid-course. Thanks for your comments concerning this important step in course completion. Gary
Hi Stephan, This comfortable and supportive approach to the classroom means so much to students as you know. We all like to laugh and enjoy interaction as we work toward a common goal. You are doing that with your classes and leadership. Gary
Hi Nicole, Great advice for everyone to live by but even more important for instructors to follow. We need to keep student support as our focus as we encourage and help student achieve their career goals. Gary
Hi Sara, This is a important thing to do. By individualizing you are able to keep the students connected to the content as well focused on the outcomes. They see value to what they are doing and can make application of their newly acquired knowledge and skills. Gary
