About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Timothy, I like this method as well. I get really good input from my students. Have you found this method to draw out the students that are shy? Thanks. Gary
Hi Patricia, Good plan for professional growth. The more input we have the more we have to work with in terms of improvement. I wish you much success with your students and your helping them to achieve their career goals. Gary
Hi Jaimie, Good strategies for enhance the retention of content by your students. The more repetition and application the higher the retention is going to be and it sounds like you have the procedure well developed for your students. Gary
Hi Brianne, I agree about the overuse of PPs. If used too much they become a distraction rather than a compliment to the instructional process. Gary
Hi Thomas, Thank you for sharing this list of what instructional professionalism is all about. This is what we instructors need to strive to do as we develop our relationships with our students and impact their lives. Gary
Hi Gregrey, You are on the right path with your instructional planning. Keep up the good work. Make sure as you share the expectations of the course with your students that you keep the segments of both content and assignments small enough they can see how they can complete them. Often times students become overwhelmed at the beginning of a course and just give up because they don't see how they can do all that is required. If they are given the assignments one at a time they feel they can complete the requirements. Gary
Hi Lloyd, Great to hear about your use of the multiple intelligence information to plan your instructional delivery. I know both your students and yourself will increase the level of involvement and progress in the course as you plan around the different intelligences. Gary
Hi Dawn, Great way to bring relevance and application of math into the lives of your students. With your approach I am sure you reduce much of the anxiety that students have about math, plus they find they can actually "use math" in their lives. What a surprise. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Jaimie, Great way of bringing variety of learning experiences into your classroom. I am sure you keep the students engaged throughout the class periods as a result of using these different strategies. Gary
Hi Robby, This is a great way to get more involvement from students, even the shy ones because everyone brings something to the class. The key is to tease out what experiences they have had in relation to the course content. One of the fun parts of teaching for me is to find out the experiences my students have had. Each time I start a new course I am amazed at the diversity of experiences that come through the classroom door. Gary
