About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Richele, You have got that right. We have had some rather warm days with sunshine and everyone perked up . We are expecting a major snow storm and I could see the spirits of my students sinking. I had to pull out a lot of activities and get them ramped back up so they can make it through the next few weeks of weather while staying focused on the acquiring the course content. Gary
Hi Jon, Great definition of what it is to be a professional educator. Keeping the student foremost in our minds as we plan and deliver out content is what keeps them engaged and focused on learning. Gary
Hi Richele, I am so excited for you and your new career direction. You are going to continue to impact lives but in a different way. Instead of direct care you are going to be helping to prepare the next generation of professionals in nursing. This is a great opportunity and I wish you much success. Gary
Hi Richele, When student come into class they are often carrying pressure from their outside lives. By knowing they will be supported and encouraged by their instructor they can relax a bit and concentrate on being successful in the class. Good way to start off a new class on a positive note. Gary
Hi Helen, I agree with you about the use of humor and laughter to keep students engaged over longer periods of time. The use of variety and change of pace helps them to reset their brains and concentrate on the content as needed. Good point thanks for sharing it with us. Gary
Hi Mary, Student like variety in their delivery of content and you are providing that for them. This is a great way to keep them focused and engaged. Gary
Hi Jeremy, Great to hear. We need more instructors that really get involved in their instructional delivery through interaction with students, role playing, excitement and modeling. Your students are going to retain so much more as a result of your efforts. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Geni, The key is to play to your strengths and you are doing that with your personality. Look for ways to share your personality and teaching style with your students and you will be connecting with your students at a level that is comfortable for everyone. Gary
Hi Andy, I like to use guest speakers as well. My students really like it when the guest speakers tell them like it is, even though I have been telling them the same thing it is just more relevant when someone from the outside tells them the same thing. It is much like when your parents tell you something as a kid but you don't listen because they are your parents and then someone else tells you the same thing and you listen. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Tiffany, I agree with you about the mini lectures and mini cases. The students really become involved in the learning component and then like to apply what they have learned through the mini cases. This helps them with application and relevancy. Gary
