About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Cathy, Good saying and I agree with it. Without preparation it is going to be difficult for both the students and the instructor because neither is going to be happy with each other. We instructors have to be prepared and bring our best efforts to the classroom each time the class meets, that is what being a professional educator is all about. Gary
Hi Jennifer, I like your approach to showing students that they are already using some of the course content. I bet they are surprised when you show them that having this knowledge helps them in their everyday lives while preparing them for successful careers. This is what learning is all about and you are helping them understand that concept. Gary
Hi Cathy, Do you develop your own syllabus or is it supplied by the college? If it is supplied by the college how do you personalize it to your own teaching style? Thanks for your input on this. Gary
Hi Janice, I agree with you about the introduction of the syllabus. When students understand course policies, requirements, and expectations they get settled into the course much quicker and with a lot less frustration. Gary
Hi Debra, You have covered the bases concerning what a professional educator should be like when preparing, meeting and following up with students. This is what students are looking for when they come to class. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Lisa, Good definition and one that has real application. If students can understand the content in a way that shows them relevancy then you will have done your job. Gary
Hi Jennifer, I love hearing success stories and yours is one of them. By working hard at developing relationships with the students as the librarian you had a head start when it came to being their instructor. It just goes to show that kindness and respect works in all settings. Keep up the good work you are doing with your students, you are impacting their lives. Gary
Hi Janice, I agree with your comment about when to introduce the syllabus. What are some ways you have found successful for taking your students through the syllabus? Gary
Hi Dennis, Right you are and we need to always keep this in mind as we work with students. We are the link that keeps them engaged in learning and enrolled in their program. We can't let them down. Gary
Hi Dennis, Well said concerning how we need to always be at the top of our game even when we don't feel like it. This shows the level of our professional dedication. Gary
