About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Jennelle, So true. The more accurately we can do this the less trauma there will be for students as they transition to the work place. Gary
Hi Tom, Good list and one that will set an instructor up to be the type of role model that students need to be observing. Gary
Hi Patricia, Good strategies for showing your students what a role model in the field should be like. This is so important as they form their opinions on how they will perform once they are in the field. Gary
Hi Lois, I really like your approach to helping your students be successful. You are using so many different methods that enable your students to use their learning preferences to acquire the needed knowledge and skills. Your class sounds fun and informative which as you know is the key for students of the diverse backgrounds to keep focused. Your Basket method is a great one. Thanks for sharing it. Gary
Hi Jesse, Good quote and one we instructors need to always keep in mind as we work with students. Gary
Hi Thomas, Thank you for these informative comments. This is what being a student focused instructor is all about. You need to earn their respect and develop rapport with them so you can be of help and support as needed. This will enable them to continue their progress toward their career goals. Gary
Hi Margaret, Right you are. What are some strategies you use to help your refocus and keep your enthusiasm up throughout the course? Gary
Hi Margaret, So true. All of us need to repeat the content or skill until it becomes a part of our working memory. The fun part of teaching is to come up with creative ways to have the students repeat the content until they have it. Gary
Hi Avia, Application and relevancy has to be integral to the instructional process. Your approach enables the students to see how they can use their newly acquired knowledge and skills. Great job with this strategy. Gary
Hi Brooks, Application and relevancy is so important to students. When they are in general ed courses they need to see both of these elements even more so they dismiss what is being taught as having no relationship to their career preparation. Gary
