About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Donald, Way to go in laying out the class requirements but still giving the students input in the operation of the class. This gives everyone input and ownership in what is going on. Gary
Hi Sandy, This is a great way to break students up into learning groups. Thanks for sharing this strategy with us. I am sure it will be of help to many other instructors. Gary
Hi Sandy, You make a number of good points about how to make students feel accepted in the course. You are right on with your comments in terms of students feeling like they are a part of the process rather than just filling a seat. Gary
Hi David, The introductions are good way to open up the communication channels. You are right that students need to feel accepted and comfortable in the class. This enables them to focus on the course rather than just occupying a seat. Gary
Hi Mary, Right on with your understanding of what you are to do as an instructor. These students are clear on their goals and it is our responsibility to provide instruction in that vein. Gary
Hi Tim, Right on with your approach to sharing clear goals and objectives. This lays it out for the students so they can concentrate on meeting the course requirements without spending a lot of time trying to understand what the teacher wants. Gary
Hi Sheila, Good way to keep your pulse on the class and how your students are doing. This way you can intervene early as you say before they get to far behind in the learning process. Gary
Hi Harold, This is a great way to share and reinforce knowledge acquisition for students. You are offering them a number of different ways to acquire the content and this is critical for them if they are going to see relevancy and application. Gary
Hi Ralph, I think you are going to see an increased engagement on the part of your students with the use of mini-lectures. Let me know how they work for you. Gary
Hi Donald, Good summary of most of the classes we teach. With the variety of students we have we need to offer variety in our instructional delivery so learning can take place. Gary
