About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Sherri, Good plan for professional development. As you get more tools in your teaching tool kit you will see an increased impact on the lives of your students. This is what teaching is all about. Gary
Hi Sherrell, Good approach to customizing instruction for your students because you know them better. The more you know about them the more accurately you can target your instruction. Gary
Hi Robert, Thank you for sharing both the strategy and the letter. This is what keeps us coming back to the classroom. Teachers like you are making a difference in the lives of students as evidenced by this student that "got it" too late but was willing to try to improve his communication skills. Gary
Hi Stephanie, So true. A well developed syllabus saves so much time and frustration in getting the class started because the students know what the expectations are. Gary
Hi Sandy, Anything like this gets the energy up and helps to focus the attention of the students on the upcoming course content. Good strategy. Gary
Hi Sandy, These are all good strategies for getting the students contributing and engaging in the learning process. Thanks for sharing them with us. Gary
Hi Stephen, Well done in terms of making the course expectations clear. This is critical for students to know. I like your use of grading rubrics as well. They just make everything so much more clear when it comes to student questions. Gary
Hi Audrey, This information needs to be shared right up front because as you mention they need to know what it takes to be successful in the course. By knowing this they know how to set their priorities in terms of studying and assignment completion. Gary
Hi Edwin, Good way to set the stage for successful learning each time the class meets. This is so important for the students to see as they enter the classroom/lab. Keep up the energy. Gary
Hi Jeanne, Good strategies. I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I understand where you are coming from. It is a challenge to keep them engaged. You offer a lot of variety in your instruction so this really helps to keep the students engaged and focused on the course. Gary
