About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Gary, Right you are. As an instructor you are trying to keep students focused and engaged while sharing content. You have to be at the top of your game each time you enter the classroom and this is why planning is so important. Gary
Hi Victor, You are right on with your instructional delivery strategies. Keep offering your students variety and change of pace as you share content. This will help to keep their interest high and their learning preferences in place. Also, be on the lookout for ideas you can incorporate in your instructional delivery. Things like learning groups, case studies, simulations, role playing, etc.. All of these strategies can be incorporated into your teaching. Gary
Hi Jeremy, I like it. I would continue to use this method. It gives the students some good ideas of how to handle different situations and how things can quickly go wrong when not approached from a professional perspective. Gary
Hi Cyndy, You are so right on this. I teach these types of courses so I experience the students not seeing value to what is being offered. This is why I have to work extra hard to keep them focused on the content and engaged in the learning process. Gary
Hi Douglas, Good comments about how to handle class management. You set the boundaries and then you let the students operate within them. This makes it easier to maintain the order and flow of instruction. Gary
Hi Kathleen, Great comprehensive approach to starting a new class of students. You understand what an instructor should do and how he/she should conduct themselves. This is what makes the difference in the lives of students. I wish you continued success with your teaching. Gary
Hi Judith, You are going to do a good job as an instructor due to your extensive experience and desire to impact the lives of your students. Keep up your attitude and professionalism and you are going to have great teaching success. Gary
Hi Jeff, Good point. The key as you mention is being able to adjust to the learning needs of the adult student. This keeps them engaged so they won't drop out of the course before they experience success. Gary
Hi George, Good approach to giving your adult students the tools they need, even if they think they don't, but in a way that builds on their self confidence so they will continue to see how they can be successful in the course. Gary
Hi Gregory, Good approach. Sounds like you have had good success with this method so keep up the good work. Gary
