About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Ruby, Good approach. This way you are ready to go but can change anything that you need to as a result of your previous experience with the course content. Gary
Hi Ruby, Two key words--early and comprehensive make the difference in instructional delivery. They both need to be followed for teaching success. Gary
Hi Tara, So true. Without it the "ship" will only go in big lazy circles with no destination in mind. Gary
Hi Nancy, I am with you. Planning early is essential. I have been in the copy room many times when an instructor will come in in a panic because he/she needs to copy something that they are going to teach in 3 minutes. That is not worth the stress. Gary
Hi Patricia, Good point. I don't know about you but it seems that my Plan A almost never works so I better have a very good Plan B and sometimes I have to go with Plans C-D-E and F. Gary
Hi Dawn, So true. Learning should not be a treasure hunt unless a map is provided. In this case the map is a clear set of expectations shared with the students. Gary
Hi Edith, Good idea. This lets you customize your assignments to the current class of students. This is a very important aspect of instructional planning and teaching effectiveness. Gary
Hi Ruby, You are giving them not only knowledge about how to be successful in the course you are giving them strategies for studying and learning. This is an excellent way to set the stage for success. Gary
Hi Karen, I think it is time well spent for your students. Knowledge of course expectations, policies and requirements reduces anxiety and helps the students focus on the future. Gary
Hi Grace, I agree. This way the students know how they can be successful and what effort they need to put forth as the course progresses. Gary
