About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Taljmattie, Thank you for sharing this comprehensive plan for instructional delivery. This is the kind of planning that is essential for teaching success. The more time spent preparing translates into more time to enjoy teaching and working with students. Gary
Hi Laquitha, This is a great way to earn the respect of your students while establishing rapport with them. You are showing them how much you care about their success and that is a powerful motivator as you know. Gary
Hi Billy, Good plan. I always enjoy sitting in on another instructors class and watching him/her work. I can take away so much for my own use. Gary
Hi Nancy, It is the human factor that makes all of the difference. Your comments are right on target about how much influence you have on their success through support. Keep up the good work and keep impacting their lives. Gary
Hi Dixie, All great questions. In a nutshell students can work in areas outside of their preferences and intelligences but they need some additional supports to enable them to do so. I think they need this kind of expertise because different careers require different communication and processing skills and these may not be the dominant ones for students that have selected such a field. We do have the data to back up how students process information and how they retain their preferences throughout the educational sequence. Gary
Hi Dixie, Yes I do. The website is http://www.micubed.com/2/. There is a lot of information there. In addition the website is in the final stages of revision and will very soon have even more information about our research. We are currently working on predicting potential student dropouts and how to keep them from leaving school. This is based upon data we have collected from about 55,000 students so we have a large data base to work from. Any other questions let me know. Thanks. Gary
Hi Nastassia, You are right on with your comments. Instructors have to be at the top of their game and all times so they need to continually look for ways to expand their expertise and be creative in their teaching. Gary
Hi Craig, I like this model. This makes it real for students so they can see the results of hard work in their own network of family and friends. Gary
Hi Craig, Yes, hard work does pay off. In our culture of instant success and entitlement it is hard to convince students that hard work is still required for success. Gary
Hi Craig, Exactly right. You are bringing your best professional effort to the class and in turn expect your students to do the same. Gary
