About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Anthony, Keep up the enthusiasm and it will pay off. You make a good point about important it is to bring excitement to the classroom. If you don't then it is going to be a long class session. Gary
Hi Deward, Good point about the environment. If it is not supportive then it becomes a distraction that is hard to overcome. Gary
Hi David, You make a number of very good points about how to offer variety in your instructional delivery. The more variety the higher the engagement level is going to be. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Herve, Good approach. This is making a real connection to the world they will soon be entering. The more they can see relevancy and application the easier their transition will be to their profession. Gary
Hi Sandra, This is a great strategy to follow. There is a saying that "to teach is to learn twice, once as a student and again as a teacher." This is what your students are doing as they prepare and present in class. Greatly increases retention. Gary
Hi Norman, Great to hear the good words about this module. This is what professional development is all about. No matter how long we have been teaching there is always something to learn and instructional delivery to expand. Keeping making an impact on the lives of your students. Gary
Hi Yan, I do this as well for the same reasons you outlined. The students need to know from day one what the expectations, policies and requirements are for the course. This way everyone starts the class with a clear understanding of what is to come. Gary
Hi David, Good to hear. I wish you much teaching success. Gary
Hi Zulema, This is a great resource for students since they will be able to identify the key points as a result of your class notes. As you say many students are not good note takers or have been out of school for a while and forgotten how to be students. This helps them to be more efficient in their content acquisition. Gary
Hi Wenona, Good point about how to target the learning needs of your students. The more you know about them the better you can customize to their learning preferences. This will result in more effective learning and everyone one wins. Gary
