About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi All, In your various classes what type of setting, introduction or activity made the greatest first impression on you? Thanks for you input on this discussion. Gary
Hi Amy, Great attitude. Keep bringing it to the classroom, your students I know benefit from it. Excitement is critical if we are going to "sell" learning because our students are only as good as our efforts are to instruct. Gary
Hi Joan, You make a good point about PPs. It is easy to get in the flow and just run through the slides rather than stopping for application or discussion. Gary
Hi George, Good points all. Segmenting instruction is so important for learning. We take pills in small amounts and learning is much the same. Our brains can only take in so much at each learning session. Gary
Hi Asmeret, Thank you for sharing these different strategies with us. This is a comprehensive approach to getting students involved and comfortable with the course. This format really gives the students the responsibility for their own destiny. Gary
Hi Gwendolyn, This is a great tool to use with your students. They have it in print in terms of course requirements, deadlines, etc.. I use a sheet like this as well and it really helps to keep the students focused on upcoming dates and class requirements. Gary
Hi Sherrie, All good points but your last two words really sum up professional development. If we keep challenging ourselves then we will continue to grow and our students will benefit from out efforts. Gary
Hi Robert, So true about adult learners and so important to their success. Thank you for making this point. Gary
Hi Larry, Got it! Simple, understandable and right on target. Gary
Hi Tim, Good definition for us all to consider as we work with others, whether we are teachers or not. You are going to do great as an educator because you are open to professional development and excited about impacting the lives of your students. I wish you much teaching success. Gary
