About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Jeremy, When students like this are in classes they are already high in motivation because they want to be successful in order to move their career forward. They make good contributors to the class because of their life experiences and dedication to learning. Gary
Hi Angelica, All good strategies to use to help students get to know each other, review material and prepare for tests. Thanks for sharing these ideas with us. Gary
Hi Larry, So true. They need to see structure because you are teaching content that requires it. So by giving course structure you are also showing structure for the content. Good lesson for the students to learn. Gary
Hi Rachel, I always like to hear success stories like this. Just a little time and demonstration of caring and the life of a student has been changed. This is a powerful aspect of being an instructor. Gary
Hi Kelly, Thank you for sharing this strategy with us. It is a good one to use in any setting. The pausing and reflecting aspect is powerful for students so they can continue to make progress in achieving their career goals. Gary
Hi David, Thank you for these good points on support systems for students. We all need support systems so the more we can help our students identify theirs the more successful they will be. Gary
Hi Dreena, As you know students really like it when instructors share personal experiences. This is a good strategy you are using because you are helping your students to see relevancy to the content being shared. Gary
Hi Bruno, This helps the students to get settled into the course while you are getting to know them. This creates a solid foundation for a good course to follow. Gary
Hi Marcia, Good way to keep the importance of the syllabus in front of the students throughout the course. This way they know it is a document to be reviewed and followed throughout the course. Gary
