About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Robert, Well said. If students leaving your program can following the sequence then they are going to have successful careers if they put forth the effort. Gary
Hi David, Thank you for sharing the experience that you had with a first impression that didn't go as you wanted. Digging out of a hole is much harder than building on a positive first day. I know this will be valuable information for other instructors. Gary
Hi Aimee, I like your humor. It is critical to keep a class rolling along. The only problem with cattle prods is that use so many batteries that the cost is excessive. More humor? Gary
Hi Nicole, I agree. The students do have to "own" their education. If they don't then they are not going to be successful. They may pass the course but they won't be totally engaged in developing their careers if they don't feel invested. Gary
Hi Ida, Students like to be involved and you are helping them to develop their self confidence while sharing knowledge about the field. Good strategy. Gary
Hi Chuck, This is a great way to provide instruction. You are offering a number of different learning avenues to your students while providing variety and change of pace. Gary
Hi Patricia, Good comments about finding balance with your students and their learning differences. This is what being an observant instructor is all about. You are customizing your instruction without lowering your standards which is critical in the preparation of students. Gary
Hi Coleen, Yes, it is a mouthful but well put. Thank you for sharing this perspective with us. I know it will be helpful to beginning instructors as they strive to find their own level of professionalism. Gary
Hi Kevin, I really like both of these strategies. They are great contributors to the development of both the professional and human aspects of becoming a therapist. The second strategy supports the progress that students are making. Sometimes they forget just how far they have come in a short period of time. Gary
Hi Wendy, Dead on in terms of why we need to work hard in our retention efforts. We need to be organized and prepared each time we step into the classroom. To be anything less is unfair to the students. Gary
