About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

HI Dennis, This is the key to being a good instructor. Finding where the students are and then building on that base keeps them engaged and focused on the course outcomes. Gary
Hi William, I like your plan for connecting the memory components together. As a result your students are going to have a much higher content retention rate as well as an increase capacity to apply their newly acquired knowledge. Gary

Hi Rebecca, I start the class by letting everyone sit where they want. I come into the first class and we do an ice breaker, go over the syllabus, and set the stage for the class. Hi Eric, I don't think it is controversial, but I do think it is good instructional planning. Keep up this strategy because it is effective and engaging for the students. This sets the stage for successful learning to occur. Gary
Hi Othello, Good point about the human factor within us all. We do need to refresh ourselves and make sure we have excitement and energy when we enter the classroom each day. Gary
Hi Lisa, True and critical for instructors to bring into the classroom. We are all humans and so interaction needs to be frequent and supportive. Gary
Hi Joshua, So true and so critical. The students need to be invested in the course and see value from what is being presented. If they do then success will be more frequent and more impacting to them. Gary
Hi Craig, I know you are going to appreciate the results you get with this new format. Your students are going to be more engaged and will appreciate the change of pace that you are going to bring to the class. Gary
Hi Sue, Good definition. You have captured the key elements of what being a professional educator is all about. I like your last statement because it says it all. It is NO SMALL TASK but well worth it when you see the results in the lives of your students. Gary
Hi Esther, Welcome to teaching. I wish you much success in helping to prepare the next generation of workers in your field. You have a very good understanding of how to engage students in the learning process. I know you are going to do fine as an instructor. Gary
