About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Chonitia, I like this model a lot. It really gets the students involved and accountable for the content. I like your reward format as well I am sure this really gets the students going in terms of working to get the incentives. Gary
Hi Marita, Good example. You are right about both needing to be square on some adjustments are going to have to be made. Gary
Hi Jennifer, I agree with your statement on first impressions. It is so much easier to build on a positive first impression rather than trying to correct a negative one. Gary
Hi Rena, Good point and very valid based upon my observations. We need to really nail the first impression so we are moving forward with the class rather than trying to correct something. Gary
Hi Manfred, Good strategy. These observations give a lot of insight on how others conduct classes. This way you can take what you observe and use it as you develop your own instructional style. Gary
Hi Rena, Good points. I agree someone has to be in charge and it is suppose to be the instructor. I am sure many of us have experienced classes where the instructors were afraid of taking charge so the students run the class. This is a tough situation to be in for everyone. Set clear rules, assume command and move the course forward. The results will be well worth the effort as we all know. Gary
Hi Rena, You make a very good point in terms of helping students "connect the dots" between classroom and the work world. They need to see and experience what they are going to be doing upon graduation. By you working in the field as well as teaching you are bringing current experiences to them each time the class meets. This is so valuable. Gary
Hi Manfred, I like the way you offer variety to your students. This is what it takes to keep them engaged for the long of time. I teach from 4 until 10 pm so I understand exactly what you are facing with your planning. I follow the same strategy for my instructional planning. Gary
Hi Jennifer, Excitement is catching so we instructors need to bring to class each time we enter the room. We are enthusiastic about our field the engagement level of students is going to be much higher to the benefit of everyone. Gary
Hi John, Good strategy. This is a great way to prepare them for the coming "real world" in which they will soon be entering. The more that you can do this the easier their transition is going to be. Gary
