About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Jennifer, I teach in the evenings as well. I start at 4 and finish at 10 pm. You are right about the need for variety and activities in order to keep the students engaged. I really enjoy my nigh students because they are focused on being successful upon the conclusion of their educational efforts. Gary
Malcolm, I like the way you challenge the students to push themselves and strive for quality in their learning. This sets the bar high for them and gives them ideas of how to surpass the bar. Gary
Zekrayat, So true. This is the foundation for getting the students off to a good start in the course. Knowing what is to come and what the expectations are helps them to see how they can be successful in the course. Gary
Jeremy, So true about the loss of respect if you aren't prepared. Good information for all instructors to follow. Gary
Diane, Great idea! Thanks for sharing this strategy with us. Gary
Kathleen, Good plan to follow. This way you can gain some experience while figuring out your instructional style. Then you can start placing the value of the different deliveries on how they impact the learning of your students. I wish you much teaching success. Gary
Kathleen, I commend you for the great start of your "own" class. The disaster you inherited was a real learning tool for you but think about how the experience set you up for success later. Not that I would wish this kind of start to a teaching career onto anyone. You are doing a great job with your students. Keep up the good work. Gary
Malcolm, Good strategy for expanding your knowledge of how to be a better instructor as well as developing additional skills. Gary
Daniel, So true. What have you found to be the most effective way to do your advanced planning? Gary
Shirley, Thanks for sharing this rule with us. This is a good strategy to use because it gives the students an out, but only once for that day. The rest of the time they have to be on top of things in order to ready with responses. Gary
