About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Pascale, Great to hear that your new approach was successful. Thanks for sharing your success with us. Gary
Dario, So true. By learning from our mistakes and gaining additional knowledge and experience we become proficient in our fields. The more opportunities we can provide our students with such experience the better prepared they will be. Gary
Sherry, Good plan for reaching out to students as well as assessing their levels of understanding. Gary
Ryan, I agree about understanding the course expectations. I have to go over and over them throughout the course to keep the information and deadlines fresh in their minds. Gary
Dario, Yes, it does and that is why having a well prepared one is so important. It is a road map for everyone to follow. Gary
Beth, You are providing a comfortable and supportive environment with your professionalism. By them knowing you care about them individually and their success you can get them engaged. Special education is student centered in terms of providing support to and for learners in the least restrictive environment. So you are transferring the special education approach to adults in terms of how you are working with them. This makes for a positive and supportive learning setting. Keep up the good work. Gary
Ryan, Not sure. When I have taught in such situations I tried to incorporate the problems into my lesson by having discussions on how to overcome such situations and still meet our goals. The students really got into the effort. Gary
Dan, Good points about instructors as role models. I think I had some of the professors you mentioned as an undergraduate student as well. Made me think about how they ever got teaching jobs. Gary
Jason, Good professional development plan. You are truly using best of both worlds in developing your instructional style this way. Gary
Michael, You are right because a good opening statement sets the stage for what is to come in that class session. The students then can focus on what they need to learn during the class. Gary
