About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Pete, This is a good approach because different learners need to have different ways of approaching the material so they can get it internalized in their minds. Gary
Mary, Good use of relevant and current events to reinforce the content of your course. This shows the students how they can apply what they are learning to their everyday lives. Gary
Malcolm, Thank you for sharing this great story. This to me is what being a professional educator is all about. You are setting the stage for success with your methods and students recognize this. Keep up the great job you are doing, continue to inspire and you will leave a legacy of impacted lives as a result. Gary
Alberta, This is a great way to get flow the class. This way you are offering different learning opportunities and instructional variety and this keeps the students engaged. Gary
Tamara, Right you are. This is what being a professional should be about--being prepared and ready to go. Gary
Pete, Good way to define instructional professionalism. Your definition hits upon all of the key points. Thanks for sharing it with us. Gary
Jorge, Thank you for these great comments about how the learning process can and should work. The key is for the students to see ROI from what is being taught. Through application and relevancy they will. Keep up the good work. Gary
Lisa, What a great way to involve all of your students. They do love titles, don't they? You are increasing the motivation level of the class by having fun as well as informative activities available to the students. Gary
Michael, Well said. I like your "old school" thinking in relation to respect for the life experiences our students bring into our classes. We can learn from them as they from us. This is a two way street of respect that needs to be encouraged. Gary
Discussion Comment
Maggie, Yes, it can and it is important to have ways for it to be received throughout the course. This input will help to keep your content and your delivery focused on the needs of students. Gary
